Carved Painting

I create works by applying paint to wooden panels and carving into their surfaces.

Through this act of carving, relief emerges on the surface of the painting, giving the work a sculptural quality while it remains fundamentally a plane.

As I continued this practice, questions began to arise: can a work still be considered a painting if its support changes? Where does painting begin and where does it end?

The relief created through carving also brings forth relationships such as front and back, and negative and positive.

In this exhibition, I attempt to reconsider painting as a space in which these relationships coexist.
