ART OSAKA 15th Anniversary Special Talks

ART ART OSAKA is celebrating its 15th anniversary this year. As a long-established hotel art fair, we have held fairs at CASO four times, Dojima Hotel four times and this will be the seventh time at Hotel Granvia Osaka.
The philosophy of ART OSAKA has not changed since its beginning, to spread and promote contemporary art and to contribute to culture in Osaka. This year, we will hold two special talks with a variety of panelists.
Talk 1 will be on the planning of Osaka City Museum of Modern Art, which is due to open its doors in 2021. Talk 2 will be discussing the future of art fairs. Please do not miss them.

Panelist Profile

Tomio Sugaya
Tomio Sugaya

Senior researcher of Osaka City Museum of Modern Art Planning Office. After working as curator at Foundation of Shigaraki Ceramic Cultural Park, Sugaya started working as curator in Osaka City Museum of Modern Art Planning Office in 1992. He is in charge of the modern design, photography and contemporary art sections. He also coordinates the preparation of Osaka City Museum of Modern Art.

Kenta Oka
Kenta Oka

While working as one half of the duo “Oka Kenta Yuta” at Yoshimoto Kogyo Company, Oka is also an art collector and rigorously visits galleries and museums. He holds talks at various exhibitions and actively works as an event MC. Since 2014, he has been acting as an art planner for Kyoto International Film and Art Festival.

Hozu Yamamoto
Hozu Yamamoto

President of Tokyo Gallery+BTAP, the first contemporary art gallery in Japan. Yamamoto participates in art fairs worldwide, consults for exhibitions and urban planning, and manages many projects including rediscovering Japanese traditional expressions and community development in Ginza. He also promotes young artists and gives lectures at universities and seminars, broadly working to revitalize art.

Yuichi Mori
Yuichi Mori

Director of MORI YU GALLERY. Mori represents approximately twenty artists including Aki Kuroda and Hiroshi Fuji. He completed the doctoral program in School of Letters at Osaka University. He co-wrote “Aesthetic scholars in Kyoto” (Koyo Shobo Publisher) and “Aki Kuroda (Suisei Tsushin)” (Suiseisha).  

Yoshio Kato
Yoshio Kato

An independent curator and art critic. Currently, Kato is the president of Contemporary Art Planning Kato Yoshio Office, a member of International Association of Art Critics, a committee member of ART OSAKA as well as Ashiya City Culture Promotion Foundation. He is in charge of art reviews in the art section of Asahi Newspaper Osaka Head Office, and he is also a lecturer at various universities including Osaka University of Arts, Kyoto Seika University, Kindai University and Kobe University.
